Abstract
Learning difficulties during online learning is a condition where students are not able to learn online optimally. This study aims to determine the learning difficulties experienced by students during online learning in biology science subjects. The research was carried out using a descriptive method with survey techniques for class VIII students of SMPN 4 Siak Hulu in the academic year 2020/2021. The sampling technique used a stratified sampling technique (proportional stratified random sampling). The number of research samples was 191 people. The instrument used was a validated online learning difficulties questionnaire which consisted of 36 items. The data collection technique uses an online questionnaire made via google form. The results showed that the level of student learning difficulties during online learning was in the medium category with a percentage of 69.27%. The highest difficulty experienced by students was in the indicator of the level of understanding of biology subject matter during online learning, while the lowest difficulty was found in the indicator of pedagogical ability. The conclusion obtained from the results of this study is that the eighth grade students of SMPN 4 Siak Hulu experience learning difficulties during online learning in biology science subjects, especially at the level of material understanding. Referring to this, teachers and the school are expected to improve the quality of teaching and provide services that are more supportive of student learning activities during online learning.
