Abstract
The piping system is an important aspect that supports the production process inthe industrial world, including the oil and gas industry. Pipes are engineeringstructures that are widely used for the collection, transportation and distributionof fluids in various areas. In accordance with the piping engineering standardsused in Indonesia and stated in the Decree of the Minister of Mining and EnergyNumber 300.K/38/M-PE/1997, oil and gas pipelines must be buried underground.chemical and mechanical loads in the environment and these factors cause damagewhich can be expensive to repair. Corrosion in pipes is the most common form ofpipe damage and must be considered both in strength analysis and inserviceability of embedded pipes, this happens because in the soil there areminerals that can cause or even promote corrosion of pipes. To control or slowdown the occurrence of corrosion in the pipeline network, the control system thatcan be carried out in general is the installation of coatings equipped with theapplication of cathodic protection methods. There are two types of cathodicprotection methods, namely the sacrificial anode and impressed currentprotection methods. In conducting this research the author will apply thesacrificial anode method to the protection of underground pipelines in the segment09 area located in Bangko – Benar, Rokan Hilir Regency, where the authors willcalculate the need for sacrificial anodes for underground pipeline protection anddetermine the distance and design of the installation. Sacrificial Anode CathodicProtection so that it can be analyzed and applied in the field. The results of thecalculation of cathodic protection in this study showed that the number of magnesium anodes to be installed to protect the 10130 meter long pipe was 18 anodes with a weight of 14.7 kg and the distance between the anodes was 562.77meters.
