Abstract

Humans are social beings who have an attachment to interacting as well as creatures who need each other. In individuals, building friendships is one of the support factors for survival. The quality of friendship is a relationship that has value because there is an ability to rely on each other and a sense of comfort and emotional security. Emotional intelligence is the ability of a person to overcome and control himself against the sense of emotions he feels in the form of the ability to understand situations and conditions. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and the quality of friendship in early adulthood. The subjects of this study were early adults who were in the city of Pekanbaru which numbered 400. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The data collection method uses an emotional Intelligence scale of 21 aitems and a friendship quality scale of 19 aitems. The analysis data using spearman rho correlation where the results showed a significant correlation coefficient value with a value of 0.345 (0.05). From these results it is concluded that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and the quality of friendship in early adulthood. Where the higher the emotional intelligence that early adulthood has, the higher the quality of friendship and vice versa.
