Abstract

The backgrounds of the problem in this study are the low ability of students to memorize the Qur'an so that they need serious treatments, the lack of ability to recite the the Qur'an according to standards that results in low quality of deposits, the low enthusiasm for memorizing the Qur'an that requires serious motivation, and the low ability to maintain muraja'ah memorization of the Qur'an. Therefore, this study is intended to investigate the efforts of tahfidz teachers in improving the students' abilities to memorize the Qur'an at MTs Fadhilah Pekanbaru. The type of the study is qualitative research with a case study approach. The results of this study show that the efforts of tahfidz teachers in improving the students’ abilities to memorize the Qur'an at MTs Fadhilah Pekanbaru have 2 dimensions; (1) The teachers make efforts to instill sincerity in students, build a love of the Qur'an, build and create a comfortable classroom atmosphere, and choose the right time for depositing students’ memorization. (2) The teachers pay attention to the ability of the rules of tajwid, teach the rhythm of the Qur'an, teach basic Arabic, use appropriate methods in memorizing, supervise the deposit muraja'ah and hold a tahfidz al-Qur'an competition as a form of motivational enhancement and rewards for students.
