Abstract

Tinder is a social media that is able to connect someone with other people who have absolutely no previous relationship. In addition, Tinder also helps someone to expand their relationship, interact and even bring together a life partner for someone. In a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in September 2020, there were 57.6 percent of respondents in Indonesia using Tinder, the highest among other online dating apps. This research is a research that focuses on the management of Tinder in establishing friendship relations among Pekanbaru City students. The approach taken in this study uses qualitative methods with interpersonal communication with interview and documentation techniques. Based on 13 people from 15 sources, they did not feel insecure about their interlocutor while 2 of them experienced this because it was possible that everyone's insecurity would appear if they saw someone who was prettier, they just had to be good at dealing with it. Based on the results of the research, the informants prefer to move to another chat platform to deepen their friendship, whether they are ordinary friends or for things that lead to more serious matters.
