Abstract

Utilization of mangrove as ecotourism is believed to be used as a driver in the preservation of mangrove as well as to provide added value to the community's economy. This became reason for development of mangrove ecotourism in Sawang Selatan Village by the village government. However, the mangrove ecotourism has not developed as expected, this is due to the unclear form of management and the lack of community involvement in management. This study aims to formulate a strategy for developing mangrove ecotourism in Sawang Selatan Village, Karimun Regency. This research used a deductive approach with quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. To describe the condition of mangroves, community characteristics and the role of government, qualitative and quantitative descriptive analyzes were carried out. While the strategy formulation in this study used the SWOT method with scoring which is based on EFAS-IFAS. The results showed that mangrove conditions had a fairly high level of diversity where there were 10 species of mangroves, and several classes of animals such as birds, fish, reptiles, and crustaceans. The majority of people in Sawang Selatan Village work as farmers and most of them have elementary school education, with an average low income of IDR 500,000, - 1,000,000. The government's contribution in mangrove ecotourism is in the form of funding and the operator of mangrove ecotourism activities. Based on the results of the SWOT analysis and scoring based on EFAS-IFAS, has formulated a development strategiy of mangrove ecotourism with priority as below: (1) Increasing supervision on the preservation of mangrove ecosystems. (2) Improving ecotourism amenities and infrastructure. (3) Improving the human resources of local residents. (4) Increasing Promotion activities. (5) Development of local community in management of ecotourism. (6) Maintenance of available ecotourism facilities.
