Abstract

The ability of students to identify news texts intended in this study is to identify news texts from news elements. Writing is a productive activity, but writing activities are balanced with reading skills. These two skills are closely related, from reading all sources of ideas from and to expressing those ideas, it is done in writing. The problems described in this study are (1) How is the ability of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 8 Pekanbaru in identifying the elements of news text? The objectives of this study were (1) to describe and analyze the ability of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 8 Pekanbaru in identifying elements of news texts. The theory that the writer uses to analyze this research is Kusumah (2007), Sudarman (2008). The approach used is a quantitative approach. This type of research is field research research (field research). The method used is descriptive method. The techniques used are observational techniques and test techniques. The results of the author's research concluded that the ability of grade VIII students of SMP Satu Negeri 08 Pekanbaru in analyzing the News Elements for the 2018/2019 academic year the total average score was 74.7 with a value range of 60-78 (categorized sufficient) Therefore, the hypothesis which states that the ability to analyze data on news elements of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 08 Pekanbaru in the 2018/2019 academic year is categorized sufficient on a scale of 60 to 78 is acceptable.
