Abstract
This study discusses the self-disclosure of students of the Faculty of Communication Science, Islamic University of Riau on Instagram. The more widespread social media among female students, especially Instagram, makes users tend to disclose themselves through social media, especially Instagram. This study uses a qualitative method and uses the theory of self-disclosure with the Johari Window, a window glass consisting of four parts, namely, an open area, a blind area, a hidden area, and an unknown area. This study was conducted to find out how Fikom students do self-disclosure on Instagram, and what self-disclosure tends to be highlighted. In collecting data, the researcher used observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The data validity technique uses triangulation. The results showed that Fikom Uir students tended to do self-disclosure on their second Instagram account. Self-disclosure that tends to be highlighted is personality in the Open Area, and Blind Area. The second account is used as a place for self-disclosure because it is considered the most comfortable social media account to be yourself. The methods used to show personality are quite diverse, including: posting selfies, wefies and videos through the “instastory� feature, and posting random photos and videos through the “feed� feature, posting photos and videos through the “feed� feature, and posting photos and videos via the “feed� feature. photos and videos via the “feed� feature. hobbies through the "instastory" and "feed" features..
