Abstract
This study aims to determine the interaction and main effects of using agricultural waste as organic mulch and compost to increase growth and production of peanut plants. This research has been carried out at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru City. The study lasted for five months starting from June to September 2021. This study used a completely randomized design with two factors. The first factor was organic mulch which consisted of 3 levels of treatment, namely no mulch, rice straw mulch and peanut mulch. The second factor is compost, which consists of 4 levels, namely 600 g/plot, 1,200 g/plot, and 1,800 g/plot. A total of 12 treatment combinations with 3 replications to obtain 36 experimental units. Each experimental unit consisted of 9 plants and 4 of them were sampled, so that the total number of plants was 324 plants. Parameters observed were: plant height, number of leaves tetrafoliate, flowering age, number of pods per plant, weight of wet pods per plant, weight of dry pods per plant, weight of 100 seeds, harvest index, type of weed, dry weight of weeds and temperature and humidity. The results of the study significantly affected all parameters except plant height, flowering age and temperature and humidity. The best treatment was organic rice straw mulch and compost fertilizer 1,800 g/plot. The main effect of organic mulch was real on all observation parameters. The best treatment was rice straw organic mulch. The main effect of compost was real on all observation parameters. The best treatment for compost is 1,800 g/plot.
