Abstract

Waqf is one of the main acts of worship in Islam to get closer to Allah SWT and as a means of realizing social welfare as well as capital in the development and progress of Muslims. The management and use of waqf to be productive is still very minimal, as it happens in Sukajadi District, Pekanbaru City, because the people tend to believe that waqf for religious goal is more important than community empowerment goal. Therefore, the researcher is interested in doing a study on the Management of Waqf Properties (Lands and Buildings) in Sukajadi District, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The aim of this study is to investigate how the management of Waqf Properties (lands and buildings) in Sukajadi District, Pekanbaru City. The type of this study is qualitative research. The population of this study is the waqf managers (Nadzhir) in Sukajadi District of Pekanbaru City by using a purposive sampling technique of two people. The data collection techniques used are interviews and documentation. Then, the data are analyzed with the steps of data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of interviews with the Nadzhirs in Sukajadi District of Pekanbaru City, it can be concluded that the management of waqf is carried out based on four management functions, namely; the planning function, by carrying out deliberations and annual evaluation meetings then collaborating with waqif and providing an understanding of waqf to the community; the organizing function, by forming a management organizational structure consisting of several sections; the Implementation and Supervision function, by deliberating to establish the waqf work program to be implemented and supervising the mauquf; and evaluation and reconstruction function, by overcoming the obstacles that may occur during the implementation of waqf work program in Sukajadi District, Pekanbaru City.
