Abstract

Composite is a material that is formed from a combination of two or more materials, where the properties of the forming material are different. Then it will produce a composite that has different mechanical properties and characteristics from the forming material. Composites consist of 2 main parts, namely the continuous phase (matrix) and the discontinuous phase (amplifier). Here, research will be carried out on the ash from the combustion of oil palm shells with a mixture of polyster resin and graphite carbon as a composite reinforcing material to obtain the optimum value from the density and microstructure test of the mixture of ash from the combustion of oil palm boiler and polymer resin. In this study, microstructure and density testing were carried out to obtain the characteristics of the composite reinforced with boiler ash waste used for plate applications. Microstructural test is a method used to obtain images of macro structures and areas of porosity. From the results of microstructural testing, it can be seen that the mixture of ash and resin changes the surface of the plate. Meanwhile, the highest porosity value was found in the composition of 65% LAB: 35% RP with 5%. For density values obtained values of 0.6 〖gr / cm〗 ^ 3 composition 65% LAB: 35RP, 0.5 〖gr / cm〗 ^ 3 composition 55% LAB: 45% RP, 0.45 〖gr / cm〗 ^ 3 composition 45% LAB: 55% RP.
