Abstract

This study aims to describe the function and form of the music performance of Kentongan Laskar Wulung in the Javanese Overseas Community in Seminai Village, Kerinci Kanan District, Siak Regency, Riau Province. The function theory used in this paper is according to Sujarno (2003: 49-53) and the performance theory used is according to Murgiyanto (1992: 14). The method used in this research is a qualitative research method which is carried out by describing or describing things related to a situation. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation techniques. Data analysis by means of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research in this study indicate that the function of Kentongan Laskar Wulung music in the Javanese Overseas Community in Seminai Village, Kerinci Kanan District, Siak Regency, Riau Province, is as a means of ritual, education, information media for social criticism and entertainment. The form of the Kentongan Laskar Wulung music performance in the Javanese Overseas Community in Seminai Village, Kerinci Kanan District, Siak Regency, Riau Province includes a presentation sequence (which includes music or song (tembang), instruments (musical instruments), players, staging equipment (starting from stage layout, make-up, fashion, sound and lighting) time and place of staging and audience.
