Abstract
This research is titled The Meaning of The Lyrics of the Song "Untuk Apa/Untuk Apa?" by Hindia which is motivated by an anxiety of the songwriter Baskara Hindia who sees young people today who are pursuing their ambitions but many valuable things are forgotten. This research aims to find out the meaning of the song "Untuk Apa/Untuk Apa?" Hindia. This research is a qualitative study that uses the method of analysis of the discourse model Teun A. Van Dijk which contains three elements, text, social cognition, and social context. With this method, researchers get the conclusion that, from the elements of the text there is a meaning in each verse of the lyrics that the songwriter wants to convey. Elements of social cognition can be concluded that the Indies understand what is going on and what young people are feeling today. And the last element is the social context inferring the growing discourse in society that is an ambition that gives rise to a lot of loss is really appropriate and relevant to the public especially young people today.
