Abstract

Intercultural Communication Between Local Surfers and Foreign Tourists at the Bono Wave Tourism Location Teluk Meranti District Pelalawan Regency Helma Julita 179110111 Researchers raised this research because researchers want to see the intercultural communication that occurs between local surfers and foreign tourists in the natural tourism area, namely the Bono wave. With the aim of knowing the intercultural communication carried out by local surfers with foreign tourists in Teluk Meranti District, Pelalawan Regency and the obstacles experienced by local surfers when interacting. This research was conducted in Teluk Meranti District, Pelalawan Regency using qualitative descriptive methods with 5 surfers as the subject local people who were active in surfing when the Bono waves came and 2 more were foreign tourists visiting Teluk Meranti District. Done with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation and documentation. By using the technique of data validity triangulation which is carried out to analyze the data qualitatively and draw conclusions. This study uses the concept of communication and barriers to intercultural communication. The results of this study indicate that the process of intercultural communication there occurs intensely, and motivates local surfers to explore foreign languages. The communication that is built between local surfers and foreign tourists is insperable from the desire of the local community in advancing tourism in Teluk Meranti District. Although then there are several barriers to communication, these obstacles are difficulties in using language, experiences, and cultures. However, differences do not become a barrier to interaction because these two cultures always prioritize mutual respect for various kinds of differences, both in terms of culture and so on.
