Abstract

Transportation is a vehicle that is driven by humans or machines to move from one place to another. In this transfer process, negligence often occurs, causing traffic accidents. A traffic accident is an event that cannot be predicted when it will occur by inadvertently involving a vehicle with or without other road users which results in human casualties (slightly injured, seriously injured and died) as well as causing property losses in the jurisdiction. Pelalawan Police. Factors that cause traffic accidents are usually human factors, natural factors, vehicle factors, road factors. To uncover the occurrence of traffic accidents, it is necessary to carry out an investigation by the relevant police. The main problem in this study is how is the process of investigating past accidents that caused the death of people in the jurisdiction of the Pelalawan Police? and What are the obstacles faced by investigators from the traffic unit in the legal area of the Pelalawan Police in handling the case? The type of research used in this research is empirical juridical research or what is commonly called sociological legal research, while in terms of its nature, this research is descriptive research, namely research that aims to describe (describe) the investigation process and obstacles in the investigation process in the jurisdiction Pelalawan Police. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be seen that the process of investigating the crime of traffic accidents that caused the death of people at the Pelalawan Police is, Processing reports/information, Visiting the Place of Case, Requesting Visum et Repertum, Making Minutes of Investigation at the Place of Case. Meanwhile, the obstacles faced by investigators from the traffic unit (lantas) of the Pelalawan Police were as follows: time conditions, regional conditions, lack of facilities and infrastructure, absence of witnesses, lack of Sat traffic personnel, and limited funds for operations.
