Abstract

Abrasion is the process of erosion of the coast by energy of the sea waves and currents are destructive. The coastal area of Bengkalis Islands has several issues, like abration and it’s impact to the coastal area beach seaside area experienced abrasion and resulted in the loss of a part of the land. This study discusses strategies for handling coastal area due to the abration in the north coast region in Bantan District. The research methodology includes data collection, data analysis, rating of coastal damage level and interest level, and handling priority determination. The parameters of coastal damage are analyzed includes mangrove forest damage (L6) and shoreline change (AE-1). Result of priority handling is mangrove forest damage parameter (L6) priority A (highly prioritized) in Selat Baru village and shoreline change parameter (EA-1) priority B (preferably) in Bantan Air, Bantan Sari, Bantan Timur, Deluk, Jangkang, Mentayan, Muntai Barat, Pambang Pesisir, dan Teluk Papal village. Strategies handling recommendations are mangrove tree planting, repair and construction protective building, counseling mangrove benefits, limit social activities which could result in economic damage to coastlines and the determination of the green line mangroves in areas.
