Abstract

ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF COARSE AGGREGATE TEMPERATURE ON MEDIUM QUALITY CONCRETE STRENGTH FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION By : Riduan NPM : 183 122 012 Rigid pavement road construction were used because of some of the advantages, among others, material is readily available, so that the quality of designed construction can be met properly. However, the use of concrete construction in this rigid pavement during the work implementation time must pay attention to both the composition of the designed concrete quality mixture, the conditions of the workplace and the environmental temperature treatment of the concrete during casting. The study is aimed at seeing how an effect of coarse aggregate temperatures can effect the strength of concrete, which takes direct observations in the field between environmental temperature and the temperature of coarse aggregate exposed to the sun, the temperature of coarse a aggregate material can reach 58,85 C when the temperature of the environmental at noon is at 33 0 C. In this study using coarse aggregate material at a temperature of 25 C ± 1, a temperature of 35 0 C ± 1, a temperature of 45 0 C ± 1, and 60 0 C ± 1 in the concrete mixture. Where the coarse aggregate is the largest component in the composition of the concrete and in terms of the flexural strength (fs ') and compressive strength (fs') of concrete based on SNI 4431: 2011, and SNI 1974: 2011, by conducting experimental tests in the laboratory using the composition concrete quality of fs 4.5 Mpa / medium quality concrete (20≤ fc '<45Mpa). Research results showed that the higher the temperature of the coarse aggregate used in the concrete mixture resulted in a change in the cement water factor (FAS) from the original Design Mix Formula (DMF) plan, causing the slump value to be low. Coarse aggregate with a temperature of 25 0 C with a slump value of 7 cm, a temperature of 35 0 C with a slump value of 5 cm, a temperature of 45 C with a slump value of 2 cm, and a temperature of 60 0 C with a slump value of 0 cm. The lower slump value causes the quality of the concrete to be high, but if the slump value is <2,5 cm it will cause a decrease in the quality of the concrete due to the difficulty of compacting the concrete.
