Abstract

The rise of online prostitution in the media because access is easier, cheaper, more practical and safer than officers' raids. Compared to conventional prostitution, online prostitution is easier to use and safer than police officers. That is why prostitution is more in demand by sex workers. One of the most existent applications in online prostitution is the MiChat application. As happened in the peaceful Marpoyan sub-district, Pekanbaru city. The perpetrators carried out online prostitution through one of the social media applications, namely the MiChat Messenger application. Psk peddles itself to the user of the MiChat application. It is undeniable that MiChat users also use the application to search for prostitutes. This research was carried out at Hotel X Marpoyan Peace District, Pekanbaru City by examining the process of online prostitution activities that occurred. This study uses a qualitative and descriptive research method approach and is strengthened by rational choice theory with the aim of solving the problem formulation in this study. The purpose of this study was to determine the practice of online prostitution carried out by commercial sex workers through a social media application, namely MiChat.
