Abstract
students are included in their late teens, who are still unstable needing recognition from their social environment and have unstable emotions. In this situation, the ability to control themselves or self-control becomes weak, so they tend to take action based on emotions. One of the actions in question is the act of buying. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between self-control, to see the dominant dimensions of self-control and the level of consumptive behavior. This research is quantitative non-experimental. The sample of this research is 271 psychology students. The results of the research above can be said that there is a significant negative relationship between self-control and consumptive behavior in psychology students at the Islamic University of Riau. The data collection technique used is simple random sampling. The data collection tool uses a self-control questionnaire and consumptive behavior. Data analysis used Spearman rank with the correlation value (r) = -0.431 with a significance value of the second variable of 0.000 (p <0.05). This shows that the direction of this negative relationship can be interpreted as the higher the control, the lower the consumptive behavior in students, and vice versa, the higher the consumptive behavior in students, the lower the self-control.
