Abstract

This study aims to describe the happiness of a mother who has a child with autism spectrum disorder. Mothers who have children with autism disorders have a bigger role and influence compared to the father figure. Mothers provide more care time and can find out what children need during the mentoring and care process. Happiness is an important aspect for mothers to achieve psychological well-being. Mothers always face various difficulties in the process of caring for autistic children. This study used a descriptive qualitative design with a case study method in order to analyze more deeply the forms of happiness in mothers. Respondents in this study were 2 mothers who had children with austism spectrum disorder using purposive sampling technique. The technique of collecting data uses the observation method as primary data by recording anecdotal records and the interview method as secondary data and photo documentation. The results of this study indicate that the subject can feel happy and fully accept the disturbances experienced by their children. Subjects have positive relationships with others, are fully involved in the parenting process, can find meaning in everyday life, have an optimistic and resilient attitude. Happiness in the subject is also based on several factors, namely social life, religiosity, marriage, health and age.
