Abstract
Phenomenology of Catcalling Among Riau Islamic University Students Wafiqah Haniyyah Setyono 179110180 Catcalling is a form of verbal communication that is often carried out by irresponsible people, where the action is considered impolite and leads to verbal sexual harassment. This study discusses phenomenology which focuses on catcalling activities among students and what is behind the occurrence of this catcalling, especially among students of the Islamic University of Riau. In this study using a qualitative approach with interviews and observation methods. The results showed that the occurrence of catcalling was caused by the abuse of the interaction relationship between men and women which harmed one party because they were harassed or humiliated through interactions that included social objects, symbols, language and views. The motive for the catcalling action was the perpetrator's fun and boredom, and even from the statement of an informant said that catcalling was also a place to show a man's courage.
