Abstract

This study aims to determine the values of Character Education in the Bakoba Tradition in Ujung Batu District, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province and also to determine the musical elements of the Bakoba Tradition in Ujung Batu District, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province. The research method used in this study is Suharsimi Arikunto's theory (2013), namely interactive descriptive qualitative. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data display and verification or drawing conclusions. The results showed that the values of character education in the Bakoba tradition are religious values, honesty values, environmental care values, social care values and responsibility values. The elements of music use Jamalus' theory that basically musical elements can be grouped into main elements, namely harmony, rhythm, melody, or song structure and elements of expression, namely tempo, dynamics and tone color. In the Bakoba tradition uses Bb Major or Bb = do scales, time signature 4/4 , has 4 different rhythm patterns, which are divided into 1 rhythm pattern on vocal instruments and 3 rhythm patterns found on burden instruments. The melody of this traditional Bakoba music song is dominantly moving, sung with the tempo type Andante, meaning medium which is around 85 bpm and sung by a male with a high voice or which means it has a tenor tone. Then the harmony in Bakoba traditional music seems monotonous, because it is only accompanied by one chord, namely G minor from the beginning of the song to the end of the music, the dynamic in Bakoba traditional music is p (pianio) which means it is sung very softly.
