Abstract

This study aims to determine, analyze the efforts made, as well as the obstacles in increasing public political participation in the Direct Election of the President and Vice President. This type of research is descriptive survey with a qualitative approach. The informants in this study were the Chairperson of the KPU of Rokan Hilir Regency, the Chair of the District Election, and the Community from each Kepenghuluan. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Then the data collected is classified according to the type and shape and then presented descriptively. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that the KPUD has been able to increase public participation in the direct elections for the president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 period in Rimba Melintang District, Rokan Hilir Regency. It can be seen from the increase in the number of voting rights exercised in the presidential and vice presidential elections by more than 80% and a higher number than the 2014 election. The obstacle of the KPUD in increasing public political participation in the direct elections for President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2019-204 period is that there is not much media which can be used to socialize elections to voters. At least election volunteers come from millennials who are competent to be recruited in an effort to socialize the election. The lack of active activities of women's groups such as PKK and others in Rimba Melintang District has become a separate obstacle in disseminating the election. Uncontrolled participation in reviving democracy. There are limited activities that the KPUD can organize to gather the crowd.
