Abstract

This research is motivated by the rise of students in utilizing social media Instagram, there is even the freedom to upload whatever the user wants so that there are harsh sentences and are seen by the public, the concept applied in this research comes from the basic assumptions of the ITE Law which formulates media ethics. In some of the most important points, the uploaded content does not violate decency, does not contain gambling, does not slander, does not contain elements of extortion and, the threat of uploaded content is not vulgar, not hoax, and does not hijack other people's accounts. The method used in this research is qualitative with four informants. Data collected through the process of interviews, observation and documentation. In this study it was found that the four informants had applied social media ethics to the ITE Law but not in its entirety because the researchers still found some informants who were still committing violations such as the informant Febri Yolanda still using vulgar sentences and committing piracy while Shinta Febryna and Naulita Sandra still posted fake news. . In addition to applying media ethics, the researchers also found the tendency of informants to use Instagram's social media such as Instagram as a Self Disclosure Media, self-existence media, promotional media, reporting media, and Instagram is also used as a medium for K-Pop fanaticism.
