Abstract

CITY MORPHOLOGY IN CENTRAL KUANTAN DISTRICT, KUANTAN SINGINGI REGENCY 2000-2018 WAHYU HERLIANI 163410034 ABSTRACT The increasing number of population and their activities shown in form of the land cover phenomenon. This kind of phenomenon will affected the form of the city. The purpose of this study was to analyzing the development of urban morphology in Kuantan Tengah District in 2000-2018. This study discusses the morphology of the city based on aspects of land cover change, road network patterns, and building patterns and their functions. This study was used quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis which used remote sensing interpretation techniques for Landsat images in 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018. The sample technic in this research was conducted by Stratified Random Sampling. Interpretive analysis was carried out to determine land cover changes which were used as one of the ways to determine the development of urban morphology. The results showed that the level of accuracy of land cover interpretation in 2000 was 94%, while in 2006 we got 92%, and the highest number is in 2018 amount of 98% which showed results that were greater than the minimum level of accuracy of 85%, this means it was acceptable for the next process. Land cover experienced a significant change from non-built land to built-up land in 2000- 2018 reaching 7.8 km2. The pattern of the road network seen in Central Kuantan District is more dominant with irregular road patterns formed by the topography of Central Kuantan District which varies between hilly and sloping. The pattern of buildings seen in Kuantan Tengah District in 2018 tends to be linear and spread out, because it follows along the road and the settlements are on the right and left of the road. The spatial expression of the city morphology formed in Kuantan Tengah District is included in the form of a rectangular city because there are physical obstacles to the development of the city area on one side, such as a forest. The factors that influence regional development in Kuantan Tengah District are 4 factors that dominate in Central Kuantan District, namely philosophical factors, topographic factors, economic factors, and social factors.
