Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the health level of insurance companies, premium growth, claims expense and underwriting on profitability in insurance companies in Indonesia. The population in this study were 76 insurance companies and a sample of 9 insurance companies. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The data used in this study is secondary data with quantitative approach from the financial statements of insurance companies in Indonesia in 2014-2018. The variables used in this study are the Health Level of Insurance Companies, Premium Growth, Claims and Underwriting Expenses. The results of this study indicate that the Health Level of Insurance Companies, Premium Growth has a positive and significant effect on profitability while Claims and Underwriting Expenses have a negative influence on the profitability of insurance companies Indonesia in 2014 - 2018.
