Abstract

ABSTRAK Indonesia has many results of traditional knowledge, one of which is in the form of handicrafts, but there are also many regions in Indonesia that do not maintain the results, as is the case in the Riau Province such as Rattan Raw Material Crafts Typical of Pekanbaru City which is not at all the result of Indonesian traditional knowledge. The main problem in this research is what is the role of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the protection of traditional knowledge in Indonesia according to the 1883 Paris Convention, and how are the obstacles in the legal protection of traditional knowledge in Indonesia. While this research method is observational research or known as survey research. While its nature is descriptive, namely the author tries to provide a detailed description of the Review of the Role of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the Protection of Traditional Knowledge in Indonesia according to the Paris Convention 1883. The results show that the role of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Traditional Knowledge in Indonesia According to the Paris Convention 1883 is to provide protection for traditional knowledge, but because the Indonesian government has not played an active role in protecting copyrights that have existed and have been developed and maintained for generations. especially in the form of rattan crafts. Moreover, because to protect Traditional Knowledge as part of copyright, individual rights must be clear and transparent who the subject must be protected, while in Traditional knowledge is still shared or communal property so that it is not known who actually holds the rights to traditional knowledge, and obstacles in the legal protection of traditional knowledge in Indonesia are regulations that do not fully support the implementation of traditional knowledge, there is still low public awareness to register their works or thoughts. the lack of data documentation, as well as the characteristics of traditional knowledge which are generally communal. Lack of socialization from the government and complaints from craftsmen regarding the length of the copyright registration permit process.
