Abstract

Forest and land fires have frequently occurred in Indonesia, including in the Bengkalis district, Riau Province. This area, which is mostly peatland, is regularly subscribed to every year. Forest and land fires trigger smoke haze that pollutes the air, this is exacerbated if fires occur on peatlands because of the destructive nature of which they trigger a long haze of smoke. Air pollution in the form of smog disturbs the activities of people who are outdoor the room. There are many impacts caused by the haze, such as impacts in the education, health, economy and social sectors. This is clearly very detrimental to the community plus the community becomes a victim who inevitably has to accept it every year due to the government's inaction in preventing these forest and land fires. In the theory of green criminology, it is explained that environmental damage in the form of air pollution (smog) resulting from forest and land fires is very detrimental to the community and the existing ecosystem. It is also explained here that environmental crimes result in the destruction of cultural and biological aspects. Here the community is required to play an active role in collaborating to prevent the occurrence of smog, so that this phenomenon does not harm them as a whole, not just accepting the disaster with open arms, but is required to be more active in preventing the haze disaster. Collaboration and cooperation are urgently needed in preventing forest and land fires that cause smog.
