Abstract

Euphemism is an expression to refine words or terms that are considered rude or inappropriate to say. The problems in this study are (1) how is the form of euphemism in the editorial of the Riau Pos Daily newspaper 1-31 January 2020 edition, (2) how is the stimulation of the connotation contained in the form of euphemism in the editorial of the Riau Post daily newspaper edition 1-31 January 2020. The purpose of this study is to collect data and information about the analysis of forms of euphemisms in the editorial of the Riau Post Daily Edition 1-31 January 2020 edition. The theory used in analyzing the problem of this research is the euphemism according to Sutarman and the connotation of connotations according to Parera. The method used in this research is descriptive method, this type of research includes literature studies, as well as data collection techniques using documentation and hermeneutic techniques. The data in this study are all editorial plans for the Riau Pos 1-31 January 2020 edition, totaling 26 editorials. From the analysis of the data in this study, the authors conclude that the Riau Pos editorial uses a form of euphemism for the use of singkaatan, the use of foreign terms, the use of metaphors, and the use of perifrasis in presenting news and information to the public. Besides that, the connotation of stimulating and arousing the senses, the connotation of stimulating and arousing popular attitudes and beliefs, the connotation of stimulating and arousing personal attitudes and interests is also found in this form of euphemism.
