Abstract

Loss circulation is one of the problems that occur when drilling. Oil-based mud (oil base mud) is one type of mud that is used to overcome the occurrence of loss circulation, generally the basic ingredient of oil base mud is diesel, which has a high level of toxicity and impact on the environment. Therefore, this study examines the using organic materials as the basic ingredient for oil base mud, namely coconut oil Pure (virgin coconut oil) to determine the success of pure coconut oil as the base material for oil base mud, an analysis of the value of the fitration loss will be carried out and mud cake as for the concentration variations that will be used in this study are concentrations of 60%, 70% and 80%. The use of virgin coconut oil as a Drilling mud base material (OBM) is expected to be able to overcome the problem of loss circulation and can be applied in the oil and gas industry. From the filtration loss test based on oil base mud, the concentration value of 60% is the optimum concentration value, which is 15 ml, and the mud cake value is 1 mm where the value of the mud cake has met the standard, at a concentration of 70% the filtration loss value is 18 ml, and at a concentration of 80%. n the 26ml filtration loss value exceeds the API standard and the mud cake value is too thin.
