Abstract

This research was motivated by several errors in newspaper writing regarding the use of conjunctions, including coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions. In accordance with this description, the problem in this study relates to the use of conjunctions, especially the use of coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions in the September 2020 edition of the Riau Pos Daily editorial rubric. This study aims to identify, analyze, and conclude the use of conjunctions in the Riau Pos Daily editorial. September 2020. The population in this study was the September 2020 edition of the Riau Pos daily editorial. The techniques used in this study were documentation techniques, and hermeneutic techniques. The theories used include (Alwi, et al., 2003), and (Chaer, 2015). This research is a qualitative research. The content analysis method used in this research is descriptive method. The results of this study can be concluded that there is the use of conjunctions in the daily editorial rubik of Riau Pos, amounting to 366 data from 26 rubrics. The use of these conjunctions is divided into 254 coordinating conjunction data, and 112 subordinating conjunction data. The total use of coordinating conjunctions is 254, of which there are 229 data on the correct use of coordinating conjunctions, and 25 data whose use is not appropriate. Then the total use of subordinating conjunctions is 112 data, of which there are 99 subordinating conjunctions whose use is correct, and 13 subordinating conjunctions that are not used correctly. One example is the coordinating conjunction of addition (and, and) in the sentence "The development policy only favors the group, or the group, even only for themselves and their families" in data (7) taken from the editorial rubric of the Tuesday edition of the Riau Pos daily. 2020 with the title Threat of Unity. Furthermore, one example is the subrodinative conjunction of cause (because, because) in the sentence "The impact of social relations with neighbors is getting rarer, because everyone keeps their distance" in data (1) taken from the editorial rubric of the Tuesday edition of the Riau Pos daily, dated September 1, 2020 under the title Threat of Unity.
