Abstract
Strategies for Prevention of Motor Vehicle Theft During the Covid-19 Pandemic (Study on the Tampan Police Station Pekanbaru) ABSTRACT By : Nadila Fazlina Wati This study aims to determine whether during the Covid-19 pandemic the theft of motor vehicles has increased and how the police strategy is against motor vehicle theft during the Covid-19 pandemic. Crime is a complex phenomenon that can be understood from many different perspectives. Cases of crime that occur in today's society are very diverse. Conventional crime cases that disrupt security and order in society include motorcycle theft, violent theft, rape, juvenile delinquency and gambling. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the decreasing trend in the number of motor vehicle thefts during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to the perpetrators, was due to the possibility that many residents were active at home, and besides that the perpetrators were also afraid of being exposed to Covid-19. Factors that influence the act of theft are economic and environmental factors. Environmental conditions with a low crime rate as well as security and public order in the Tampan sub-district 1x24 hours can be said to be conducive. The police in the Tampan sub-district carried out a strategy to reduce the trend of theft by conducting patrols or routine operations and providing appeals and cooperating with other parties.
