Abstract
Based on initial observations, the students' poetry writing skills were categorized as sufficient and still below the KKM. The authors obtained this based on information from teachers in the field of study at the school. Therefore, the writer wants to directly prove the poetry writing ability of the students at the school. The problem that will be studied in this research is how the ability to write poetry in class X SMA Islam Terpadu Bangkinang in terms of the physical structure and inner structure of poetry. This study aims to describe the ability to write poetry of tenth graders of SMA Islam Terpadu Bangkinang in terms of the inner structure and physical structure of poetry. The population in this study were all students of class X SMA Islam Terpadu Bangkinang totaling 127 people who were spread into 5 classes. The sample that was set was 21 students of Bangkinang Integrated Islamic High School. The type of sampling used is purposive sampling. This research is a quantitative research using data collection techniques in the form of performance tests (writing poetry), while the data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics. Based on the results of the research, the writer found that the students' ability to write poetry in terms of the physical structure of poetry obtained an average score of 57 with a range of values (0-59) categorized as less. For the results of the study, students' ability to write poetry in terms of the inner aspect of poetry obtained an average score of 64 with a range of values (60-70) in the sufficient category. So, overall the ability to write poetry for students of class X SMA IT Bangkinang for the academic year 2019/2020 obtained an average score of 59 with a range of values (0-59) categorized as less. The results of the hypothesis obtained in this study are the ability to write poetry for students of class X SMA Islam Terpadu Bangkinang in terms of the physical structure of poetry in the category enough, the hypothesis is rejected. Meanwhile, the poetry writing ability of the tenth graders of SMA Islam Terpadu Bangkinang in terms of the inner structure of poetry is categorized as sufficient, the hypothesis is accepted.
