Abstract

This study is motivated by the lack of research or discussion about the economy of the Malays. Malay is one of the Islamic tribes in Indonesia which has its teaching points called “Tunjuk ajar Melayu” which consists of teachings, advice and rules for living for Malay people. Tenas Effendy is one of the Malay cultural figures who wrote this Tunjuk Ajar Melayu in accordance with custom based on sharia, sharia based on the holy Quran, Sharia is in form of statement, custom is in form of action, if something is legal in sharia it means it is legal in custom. He also mentionsthat the Malay economic system is alleged to have a relationship with the Islamic economy based on its teaching guidelines. The formulation of problem in this study is how the economic value in Malay teachings and how the correlation between the economic principles of Malay teachingsand sharia economy. The purpose of this study is to determine the economic values in Malay Teachings and the correlation between the economic principles of Malay teachingsandsharia economy. The type of this study is library research. The approach used in this study is historical and philosophical approaches. The source of this study is primary data and secondary data. Data collection technique used is documentation. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative with the process of editing, classification, coding, and interpretation. Interpretation is done by linking economic principles in Tunjuk Ajar Melayu with the concept of sharia Economy. The results of this study show that there are twelve economic principles in Malay Teachings that are carried out by Malay people in their daily lives, and they have a symmetrical relation between economic principles in the Malay Teachings and the concept of sharia economy, namely the relation between two variables that have the same concept indicator or in line.
