Abstract

Social media is a source of information for the community along with other media such as television, radio and others. One of the most popular social media is Instagram. The ease of using the Instagram application is also the reason why Instagram is so popular. The emergence of the second account phenomenon is actually relatively new due to the growing popularity of social media Instagram. The term second account is actually not a standard thing to determine whether this account is the second account or the first account. The purpose of this study is how to use a second Instagram account among students of the Islamic Studies Forum (FSI) of Riau Islamic University when viewed from the dramaturgy theory. In dramaturgy theory, there are concepts for the front stage and the back stage. On the front stage, Goffman distinguished between setting and front personal. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques of observation, interviews and documentation. Retrieval of informants using purposive sampling technique at the Islamic Studies Forum Riau Islamic University. The results of this study are in accordance with Goffman's theory where there are differences in the use of the second account front stage when compared to the main account and the front stage, although there is no overall and in general the second account is used as da'wah, work and self-expression in different ways.
