Abstract

Discourse is the most complete unit of language because it is in discourse there is a relationship between sentences that meet the grammatical requirements, namely: cohesion (form) and coherence (meaning). Cohesion is divided into two aspects, namely grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. Grammatical cohesion marker divided into four, namely reference, substitution, ellipsis and conjunctions. Sumarlam (2009) classified references into three, namely personal references, demonstrative and comparative references. Problems in the research These are: (1) how to use persona references in a collection of short stories Rebuking Drizzle by Sapardi Djoko Damono? (2) how to use Demonstrative reference to the short story collection Menghardik Gerimis by Sapardi Djoko Damono? (3) how to use comparative references on sets The short story Menghardik Drizzle by Sapardi Djoko Damono?. The purpose of this research to describe, analyze, and interpret the use of persona reference, demonstrative reference and comparative reference to the set Short story Menghardik Drizzle by Sapardi Djoko Damono. This research using qualitative research approaches and content analysis research methods (Content Analysis). The theory used in this research is: Sumarlam (2009), Abdul Chaer (2011), Kushartanti, et al (2009), Fatimah Djajasudarma (2006), Masnur Muslich (2010), Eko Sugiarto (2014) and Yayat Sudaryat (2009). The data of this research are personal references, demonstrative references and references comparative data contained in 17 short stories by Sapardi Djoko Damono. Results research on the use of persona references found as many as 449 data in 17 short stories, as many as 54 demonstrative references in 15 short stories, and references comparative data as much as 12 data in 7 short stories. Use of all elemental data the grammatical cohesion of the reference has served as a referent (persona, demonstrative, comparative) according to the relationship of language elements (endophores/exophores).
