Abstract

Cohesion is an interfaith relationship in a discourse, both in certain grammatical strata and in lexical strata or cohesion refers to the form relationship. Elements of Grammatical Cohesion are divided into four: pronouns, conjunctions, substitutions, and ellipses. The problems examined in this study are (1) How is the use of the pronoun element in the editorial of a compass newspaper? (2) How is the use of conjunctive elements in the editorial headline of a compass newspaper? The objectives of this study are (1) To describe, analyze and conclude the use of pronoun cohesion elements in the editorial of a compass newspaper (2) To describe, analyze, and conclude the use of conjunctive cohesion elements in the editorial of a compass newspaper. The theory that I use is Alwi, et al (2010). The source of the data contained in the research is the editorial of the Kompas newspaper. The data contained in this study are elements of pronominal cohesion and elements of cohesion in conjunction. The techniques used in data collection are observation techniques, documentation techniques, hermeneutic techniques. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the use of pronouns in the editorial of Kompas newspaper was 208 data which included: 54 data in the form of gantidiri words, 62 data in the form of pointer pronouns, 7 data in the form of owner pronouns, and 85 data in conjunction pronouns. The use of 208 data from pronominal grammatical cohesion is in the correct category, because based on data analysis the author has done the 208 data. The use of conjunction element data in Kompas newspaper's editorial is 155 data which includes: 87 data such as coordinative conjunctions, 10 data in the form of conjunctions subordinate, 25 data in the form of causal conjunctions, 29 data in the form of adversative conjunctions, and 4 data in the form of correlative conjunctions. The use of grammatical conjuncture data conjunctions is categorized really because based on data analysis the author has done 155 of these data. Keywords: Use of elements of cohesion
