Abstract

The development of cities and population growth will result in increasingly complex activities and consumption patterns resulting in waste generation. If this continues while waste management is still limited, it will result in the workload of the landfill becoming a landfill.Recognizing potential sites for landfll has increased to become an important waste management strategy around the world. This study aims to find the most suitable candidate sites for locating landfill in Pekanbaru city by integrating geographic information systems and multi-criteria decision-making systems with quantitative descriptive methods. By involving a number of environmental, economic and social parameters. For this purpose, sixteen input map layers are prepared and two different MCDM methods which are Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) are implemented to GIS. At first, the Boolean logic using a geographical information system (GIS) is used to recognize potential and excluded zones, based on zero and one value system. The parameters used are geology, hydrogeology, protected areas, slopes, airports, flood susceptibility, and water bodies. In the next phase, Fuzzy logic is used, between zero and one, to standardize information layers, based on their type. The parameters used are rainfall, land cover, lithology, waste sources, roads, attention, regional borders, demographics, and demographic centers. The final weight of every layer was determined using the analytical hierarchy process. Finally, the WLC method was used to integrate layers in the GIS environment to provide the final site suitability map. The results show that Binawidya and Kulim distric are the most suitable location for landfill with the grading values greater than 2.5.
