Abstract
Fossil fuels are one of the most widely used energy sources in the world. However, the availability of fossil fuels in the world is running low, this is because fossil fuels are non-renewable natural resources. A fuel cell is an electrochemical conversion device that can produce energy from the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. A fuel cell circuit has two electrodes, namely the positive electrode as the cathode and the negative electrode as the anode. Bipolar plate is one of the important components in the fuel cell as a determinant of performance to produce energy. In the fabrication process, problems that often occur are dimensional mismatches and failure and damage to the bipolar plate. So the development of efficient bipolar plates for the manufacture of PEMFCs in the future because so far the only material used is graphhite which is easily brittle. This study was conducted to determine the effect of the thickness of the graphite coating on stainless steel plates using the compression molding method as a conducting plate on a fuel cell. reference in the development of bipolar plates in the future. From each sample of the Conducting Plate with the composition of 60% Graphite Carbon - 40% Epoxy Resin, 70% Graphite Carbon - 30% Epoxy Resin and 80% Graphite Carbon - 20% Epoxy Resin (volume fraction) obtained by cold pressing compression at a pressure of six (6 ) tons. From the results of this study, it was found that the high electrical conductivity value in sample three (3) with a composition ratio of 80% Carbon Graphite: 20% Epoxy Resin with a value of 100 S.cm-1 and samples that had bending strength according to DOE standards were obtained in the sample. the third has a bending strength value above the standard which is 21.9 MPa.
