Abstract
The desire of individuals to be superior, can achieve a standard and can achieve a success it requires high achievement motivation in individuals. The high level of individual motivation is certainly influenced by various factors, one of which is cultural factors such as ethnic groups. Each ethnic group has its own individual character and character so that this can affect the achievement motivation of individuals. This study aims to determine the differences in achievement motivation between Malay and Minang tribes among students. The subjects of this study were 100 students of the Faculty of Psychology at Sultan Syarif Kasim University (UIN Suska) Riau using simple random sampling technique. This research instrument uses a scale of achievement motivation. Data were analyzed using Independent t-Test with the help of SPSS version 23.0 for windows. Based on the analysis test obtained an F value of 15.703 with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05). This shows that there are differences in achievement motivation between Malay tribal students and Minang tribes. Minang tribe has higher achievement motivation compared to the Malay tribe.
