Abstract

Onduo was a term of child's lullaby or rocking of a child in a cradle in Malay community, especially at Rokan Hulu. At first Onduo was classified as personal singing to put a sleep a child without using accompaniment music. The poetry found in Onduo song was entirely verbal which was sourced from memory or memorization of the singer. The singer sang with the basic pattern or the same musical theme, but the rhythm varies, depends on each singer. The purpose of this research was to describe Onduo song in detail and to know the values contained in Onduo song in subdistrict Rambah Rokan Hulu district. The theory that was used in this research was value theory according to the UU Hamidy Act (2010) and song theory according to Banoe (2013). The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The techniques of collecting data were observation technique of nonparticipant, structured interview technique, and documentation technique.
