Abstract

Income is one indicator to see the pattern of household consumption. People with different income levels will have different consumption patterns. The purpose of this study was to analyze: (1) Characteristics of independent oil palm farmers in Rambah Hilir District, Rokan Hulu Regency; (2) The income and expenditure structure of self-help oil palm households in Rambah Hilir District, Rokan Hulu Regency; (3) Dominant factors influencing food expenditure patterns of self-help oil palm households in Rambah Hilir District, Rokan Hulu Regency; (4) The level of household welfare of independent oil palm farmers in Rambah Hilir District, Rokan Hulu Regency. This study uses a survey method in the District of Rambah Hilir, Rokan Hulu Regency. Sampling was done by proportional stratified sampling method, totaling 85 people. Data analysis used descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis as well as logistic regression. The results showed (1) the average age of farmers was in the productive age, the last education owned by farmers was generally only elementary school level, the number of family dependents was 3 people, and had an average experience in farming, which was 13 years; (2) The structure of the household income of oil palm farmers is the highest, which is 89.59% of the income of oil palm farming, the income of other farms is 6.47% and the income of non-farming is 3.96%. The largest household expenditure of oil palm farmers is non-food expenditure with a percentage of 36.10% and food expenditure is 33.75% of the total household expenditure of oil palm farmers; (3) The dominant factors that influence the pattern of household food expenditure of oil palm farmers are household income and the number of family members; (4) Oil palm farmer households in Rambah Hilir Subdistrict, Rokan Hulu Regency are included in the household category which is quite good because the average income per capita per month is Rp. 1,438,367 above the poverty line (GK) which is Rp. 488,401.
