Abstract

Development of lowland rice farming in Kuala Cenaku District is still facing various problems. This can be seen from the level of production which is still low compared to other areas in Riau Province, and farmers do not know the amount of profit they get in cultivating lowland rice and have not implemented effective and efficient lowland rice cultivation techniques.This study aims to analyze: (1) Characteristics of lowland rice farmers; (2) Lowland rice cultivation / production technology, use of production factors, and lowland rice farming costs; (3) The amount of production, income and efficiency of rice farming. This study used a survey method in Kuala Cenaku District. Samples were taken using method ( simple random sampling), selected 36 farmers (30%) from 120 people population of rice farmers divided into 4 villages in Kuala Cenaku District. The results of this study are: (1). Characteristics of farmers: the average age of farmers is 45 years, which means that they are of productive age; average length of education of 9 years; average farming experience is 18 years; and the average dependents of the farmer family are 4 people. (2). Lowland rice cultivation in Kuala Cenaku Subdistrict is suitable for farming, except that the doses of Urea, Sp-36 and KCL fertilizers are not according to farming standards. Lowland rice cultivation in Kuala Cenaku District has used technology in its production process. Use of production factors (a). land area used is 0.98 ha; (b). The use of seeds as much as 20.64 kg / arable / MT; (c). Use of Fertilizer: Urea 108.47 kg / arable / MT, SP-36 72.92 kg / arable / MT, KCL 48.75 kg / arable / MT, and organic fertilizer as much as 810 kg / arable / MT or; (d). The use of Tabas pesticide 160.14 ml /arable/ MT, and dharmabas 210 ml / arable / MT; (e). The need for labor is 25.15 HKP/arable/ MT; (f). All tools and machines use one unit. (3). The production cost is Rp. 6,622,392 /arable/MT, where the biggest cost was spent for labor wages of Rp. 2,513,715 /arable/ MT or around 37.96% of the total cost; the gross income is Rp. 25,902,778 / arable / MT, with a production of 5,181 kg / arable / MT at a price of GKP 5,000/ kg; net income of Rp. 19,280,386 /arable/ MT; and family income of Rp. 45,183,164 /arable/ MT. Lowland rice farming in the study area is economically efficient with RCR of 3.96 and is feasible to continue. Key words: Rice Paddy, Farming, Cultivation, Cost, Income, Efficiency.
