Abstract

Gambir farming in the village of Muaro Sungai Lolo has been going on for quite a long time, but the productivity is still low due to limited farming knowledge and the use of production factors that are not precise and inadequate marketing institutions and lack of market information so that farmers' income is not maximized. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of farmers, farming and marketing of gambier in Muaro Sungai Lolo Village. The sample of gambir farmers was taken purposely (purposive sampling) as many as 20 people and the merchant respondents were taken as many as 2 people by census. This research uses qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that 1) The average farmer was 46.1 years old with an average level of education of 7.2 years (equivalent to SMP). The highest number of dependents of the Gambir farmer family is 6 people. The dominant experience of farming gambier is 10 - 20 years, with the area of land which is predominantly cultivated by gambier farming is 1 hectare. 2) Gambir farming in Muaro Village, Sungai Lolo has a total production cost of Rp. 2,606,467 / year. Revenue from the production of dried gambier is 271 kg / year at a price of IDR 23,000 / kg, the gross income of farmers is IDR. 6,221,500 / year and the net income earned by farmers is Rp. 3,615,033 / year with an RCR value of 2.39 which means gambier farming is efficient and feasible to continue. 3) There is one marketing channel for gambier in the village of Muaro Sungai Lolo, namely from farmers -> collectors -> wholesalers. The total marketing margin is Rp. 5,000 / kg. The value of marketing efficiency in this channel is 6.43%. Marketing profit is Rp. 3,200 / kg. The share that gambier farmers receive in this channel is 82.14%.
