Abstract

Language has an important role for humans because it is a means of communication. Local language is the language used by the community to communicate in everyday life. Likewise, the people of Kelapapati Village, Bengkalis District, Bengkalis Regency who have unwittingly used various word elements, one of which is reduplication. The process of repetition or reduplication is the repetition of grammatical units, either in whole or in part, with variations of phonemes or not (Ramlan, 2009: 63). With two problems, namely: (1) What is the form of reduplication of Malay language in Kelapapati village, Bengkalis sub-district, Bengkalis district? and (2) What is the meaning of reduplication of Malay language in Kelapapati Village, Bengkalis District, Bengkalis Regency? The purpose of this study was to describe, analyze and interpret the form and meaning of reduplication of Malay in Kelapapati Village, Bengkalis District, Bengkalis Regency by collecting data from informants who used reduplication and then described, analyzed, interpreted and concluded in detail. The research method that I use is descriptive method. The research technique that the writer uses is observation technique, fishing technique and recording technique. The results of the research the authors obtained four forms of reduplication of Malay in Kelapapati Village, Bengkalis District, Bengkalis Regency, namely (1) Reduplication of all, one of the data found [slaves] 'children', (2) Partial Reduplication, one of the data found [walking around] 'walking around', (3) reduplication combined with the affix affixing process, one of the data found [betumbok-tumbok] 'mash-mashing', (4) reduplication with phoneme changes, one of the data which is found [sano-here] 'here and there'. The dominant reduplication used is the whole reduplication, and the author obtains five meanings of reduplication of the Malay language in Kelapapati Village, Bengkalis District, Bengkalis Regency, namely (1) states the meaning of many, one of the data found is [pago-pago] 'fences', (2) states the meaning that is repeated, one of the data found [walking around] is 'taking a walk', (3) states the meaning is done casually, one of the data found is [dudok-dudok] 'sitting around', (4) states the meaning carried out by two parties, one of the data found [betumbok-tumbok] is 'pounding', (5) states the meaning of feeling identity, one of the data found is 'remembering'. the meaning of reduplication which is often found is reduplication which states the meaning of repeated actions. The meaning of the data is not found because of the lack of use of language that implies reduplication.
