Abstract

This research aimed to find out what benefits college students can get from a Twitter social media account belonging to an internet expert named Ivan Lanin. He is an activist who advocates the use of proper Indonesian writing to his followers on social media and invites them to prioritize Indonesian. In this research, researcher used observational research methods and conducted interviews with a qualitative approach. To obtain research results, interview questions were arranged based on the Use and Gratification Theory which is where the focus of research is carried out on users as a determinant of message and media selection, the focus of research is carried out on the user as a determinant of the selection of messages and media, using the media to meet various needs, such as media to seek information, entertainment, and others. The researcher took the subject which was a student of Indonesian Language and Indonesian Literature Education with the aim of being able to see the value more than the effectiveness of education on Ivan Lanin's Twitter account in writing Indonesian properly. The results showed that the benefits of Ivan Lanin's Twitter account provided a lot of knowledge of the Indonesian language and made the recipients of the information more understanding and accurate in writing, namely writing according to the rules based on the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling or PUEBI.
