Abstract

Technological advances are now growing and smartphones are one of these forms of progress. However, the presence of this smartphone causes changes in interaction patterns, including young people. Among them appear indifferent attitude and ignore the people around him. This behavior is known as phubbing behavior. This is certainly contrary to the attitude taught by the family at home. Families will generally provide good education for their family members. This study aims to determine the relationship between family functioning and phubbing behavior in students. The data collection method used the Family Assessment Device (FAD) scale and the adapted phubbing behavior scale. The sample of this study amounted to 127 psychology students at the Islamic University of Riau. The sampling technique used is stratified random sampling. The data analysis method used is Spearman's rho analysis. The results of statistical analysis showed the correlation coefficient value of 0.115 with a significance value of 0.200 (p <0.05). This shows that there is a negative relationship between family functioning and phubbing behavior in students. This means that the higher the functioning of the family, the lower the phubbing behavior of students. Keywords: family functioning, phubbing behavior, students
