Abstract
Peat is a type of soil that is formed from the accumulation of half-decayed plant remains, therefore, the content of organic matter is high. Microbial carbonate deposition (MICP) induced by denitrification as a soil improvement method to determine the effect of peat soil permeability. By mixing the bacteria aims to make the coefficient of permeability better. The research testing method refers to the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and SNI procedures, preliminary testing is testing the original soil moisture content, testing the original soil density and testing standard compaction (proctor test), for permeability testing using the falling head method. The location for taking the soil for the sample was in Buana Makmur Village km 55 Dayun District, Siak Regency. Bacillus subtilis bacteria, CaCl2 and urea are mixing materials for peat soil samples. The location of the test was carried out at the Civil Engineering laboratory of the Islamic University of Riau, data collection was carried out according to soil mechanics laboratory standards. The physical properties of the peat soil in the village of Buana Makmur km 55 include the original soil type with a water content of 407.5% and a specific weight (Gs) of 1.3 g. Then from the results of the permeability test with the addition of 5%, 15% and 25% bacteria, the permeability coefficient value is better than the original soil sample where the data is 5% K20°=5,109x10-3, 15% K20°= 7,942x10-3, 25% K20°=8.855x10-3 while the original soil coefficient K20°=2.546x10-3 cm/second.
