Abstract

The formation of scale in the production line is a serious problem in the oil industry, the scale formed can reduce the inside diameter of the pipe, impede the flow of fluid in the flowline which causes a decrease in production and causes damage to production equipment, scale reduction is generally overcome by using inorganic inhibitors such as hydrochloric acid (HCL) and Ethylene diamine tetracetic acid (EDTA). In the study, the main ingredient of gambier leaves was extracted by the maceration method and used as an organic-based inhibitor which has organic acid compounds such as tannic acid, where the compound is a type of weak acid that can help reduce scale. The results of testing the tannic acid compound in the gambir leaf extract using UV-vis spectrophotometry obtained 21.31% of the tannin acid compound contained in the extract sample. This study discusses the effect of organic inhibitors on scale reduction and compares it with 5% inorganic HCL inhibitors and uses variations in immersion volumes of 5, 10, and 15 ml with variations in immersion time of 5, 10, 15, and 20 minutes and continues to calculate scale reduction using the method. weight loss. Based on the research that has been done, it is known that organic inhibitors of gambir leaf extract have an effect on scale reduction, where the highest reduction efficiency is obtained by organic inhibitors with an immersion volume of 15 ml and an immersion time of 20 minutes, which is 0.89 grams with a reduced percentage reaching 44.5% and the highest reduction efficiency using an inhibitor. 5% inorganic HCL was obtained at an immersion volume of 15 ml and an immersion time of 20 minutes, namely 0.70 grams with a reduced percentage of 35%.
