Abstract
Geothermal energy is one of the renewable and sustainable energies in the world, but at the drilling stage, it is often faced with various problems, one of which is a stuck pipe. Stuck pipes occur in geothermal drilling operations because their trajectory passes through the loss circulation zone so the cuttings are not lifted to the surface, accumulation of drilling cuttings in large concentrations will accumulate in the pipe and cause the pipe to be stuck and increase non-productive time and of course increase drilling cost. The solution to overcome this problem is by using the underbalanced drilling method, where drilling is carried out with a reservoir pressure higher than the hydrostatic pressure. This study aims to determine underbalanced drilling operating envelope, to know the cuttings transport ratio, to know underbalanced drilling mixture density and to know the minimum value of oxygen for combustion. To obtain effective and optimal results, a drilling simulator is used to account for these parameters. Based on the results, the operating envelope chart shows the optimum injection alternatives are 1200 gpm and air 1485 scfm. cuttings transport ratio in the application of the optimum injection alternative is 89% to 91% along the open hole, the density of drilling mud mixture obtained 7,75 ppg and the last is the value of oxygen content in the underbalanced drilling process of WP 16 well is 7.65%.
